Hand building, creature creation
he/they · b. 1997 · UK
Luca Bentley (he/they) is an artist, creative workshop organiser and art teacher based in Berlin. A background in Illustration and Animation, he co-runs Queer Trans* Life Drawing Berlin, Clay Jam, and works as an artist with Social Muscle Club, Gelbe Villa and is part of 90Mil Ceramics Community. Luca's ceramic work focuses on the playfulness and curiosity that comes when working with clay, forging a world of odd creatures and exploring the surreal nature of clay. Luca also runs experimental life drawing classes with the 90Mil art school programme, also using clay as a form of documentation. Whimsical, joyful and weird are some of the ways to describe his work. Luca generally uses reclaimed clay as a means of sustainability, working with hand building methods, leaning towards vibrant colours with a signature of yellow eyes linking every piece together. Always exploring, always learning.
